kmidi/timidity configuration

I've downloaded and installed timidity, timidity-patches and kmidi from unstable. Things work reasonably well, but many of the patches are not recognized by kmidi and when I try to play .mid files I get a lot of error messages about some of these patches not being available (e.g. acpiano.pat) even though they are clearly there. 
Does anyone know how to modify the timidity.cfg file to get kmidi to work properly on a standard debian unstable install?
