KPPP internet dialer

I have yet to successfully connect with kppp - I use wvdial without problems,
and when using kppp with the same settings I get through authentication and
and then get the message "The pppd daemon died unexpectedly! Exit status 1" I
have not been able to get logging to work for kppp, although it seems to work
fine for my serial port connections, so I don't have a log of what happens.
When I try to connect using kppp mini-terminal I get the following:

ATZ
OK
atdt3258604
NO CARRIER
atdt3258064
CONNECT 115200
Connected to Pacifier Online

For UNIX Shell access, enter 'shell' at the login prompt
and hit Enter for the password.

NO CARRIER

wvdial gives me:

When using wvdial the session is logged, while with kppp nothing is logged.
Any ideas?
