submit a change request to every Debian package to include some bit of
information that would say what it is. I mean...how do you know what is or
is not a KDE package. (not every KDE package depends on kde libraries let
alone qt)

IIRC apt-get does not touch /var/lib/dpkg/available...it has it's own db's,
dselect/dpkg does.

something must have been broken then if it didn't install kmail. And yes,
there are kde pacakges available which are not in task-kde. task-kde only
deals with the main official KDE packages.
