Good question, I wish I could remember. I had created some packages a
while back for some things I was working on, and I think alternatives
somehow became a part of that.
That was a couple of years ago, but I still use alternatives from time to
time as a way to "prefer" one binary over another. Doesn't usually get as
extensive as it is with Java, but I have a couple of systems using java in
exactly this way :o)
