The example is XNap (http://xnap.sf.net), where typing umlauts into the 
search box (or any other input field) produces just black boxes, at least on 
my system. The strange thing is that all other strings in the program (such 
as labels or menus) are fine. Maybe the problem has something to do with our 
code, but I do not really have an idea where such a problem might be or how 
it could be fixed.
