Uhmm... sane 1.0.7... Stai usando Woody, giusto?
Se ricordo bene, il supporto per l'Epson Perfection 1260 da parte
del backend Plustek e` abbastanza recente. Io uso Sid (con sane
1.0.9-4), e, seguendo i tuoi stessi passi, il mio scanner funziona
(anche se fa qualche rumore strano). E` possibile che la versione
1.0.7 non sia abbastanza aggiornata...
Per risolvere il problema puoi aggiornare il pacchetto sane, o puoi
installare i backend forniti direttamente da Epson:
http://www.epkowa.co.jp/english/linux_e/lsd_e.html
Dal sito scarichi un .rpm, che puoi convertire in .deb usando alien.
Esso contiene i backend (proprietari, purtroppo) ed una applicazione
fortunatamente libera (Epson Image Scan!)
