Linux clastering & common shared fs by NFS

Hi folks,

Is anyone know some solutions for heavy loaded maschines (around 600 processes ) when the nfs server is gone ?

The claster nodes are serving WWW with Apache. Apache's home directory is on common fs, how it is always work good for clustering, and it works fine till the nfs server is ok.

When the server is gone tha machines get high load, because of IOwait operation which can't finish. In this case we don't have any ideas howto stop the aplications working on servers and this nfs-disk; umount nfs-filessystemsi - expect reboot.

Any interactive command from command line can not be processed becouse of high runqueue.

TIA

tb.
