Yesterday I tried to update my testing gnome 2.4 to experimental's 2.6. I have also succeeded, after some 'discussion' with aptitude and apt-get, and for this I wanted to thank you for the good quality of these packages. I had only two problems, both caused by too broad dependencies. The first was solved by upgrading all the lib* dependencies of nautilus to the versions in unstable (I had testing, before). Without this step no Gnome program wanted to start with the new libraries giving this message: Fatal error: non posso allocare della memoria That can be translated with something like: Fatal error: I can't allocate some memory Even gnome-setting-daemon or gnome-terminal (both 2.6) would give that message. The second problem was more specific, and was caused by the missed upgrade of libpanel-applet2-0. No applet wanted to start giving some strange error about the configuration in gconf. I think this can be easily solved by setting the dependency of gnome-applets and gnome-panel to the specific version of libpanel-applet2-0. Thanks again for the good work ! P.S. Translated error messages are good, but they are difficult to report or to search in google... And BTW that's one of the reasons for which every effort to translate Linux kernel messages has been hopelessly shot down at the very beginning. -- ----------------------------- Daniele Venzano Web: http://teg.homeunix.org
