We've found that it does. There are many performance enhancements in G2D,
most notably in Nautilus, but they're there from the ground up in GLib/GTK+
and the GNOME libraries.
The release notes specifically mention (and even include testimonials!) this
improvement.

If you're on an older machine, and/or with older video hardware,
anti-aliasing is certainly a bad idea. "Don't do that."
