I've got exactly the same problem. I actually posted it to bug #150039,
tho I'm not really sure it's related. Anyway, here's the pango and
freetype versions I'm running:
libfreetype6 2.1.1-3
libpango1.0-0 1.0.3-2
I installed both nicely through apt, so I do not think it's a faulty
freetype install, but who knows...
