MS Verdana fonts and friends don't work with Gnome 2?

Hi!

After the last upgrade, my Gnome 2 programs seem to have lost the
ability to use the truetype fonts from Microsoft (installed via
msttcorefonts). They don't show up in the font chooser dialog under
desktop settings, either. Anyone know what's wrong?

The fun thing is that Gnome 1 programs (e.g. Galeon) seem to be fine.
Lyx (uses XForms) works fine according to my sister. The fonts do show
up with xlsfonts and xfontsel.

My XF86Config contains:

  Section "Files"
  # FontPath "unix/:7100" # local font server
          # if the local font server has problems, we can fall back on these
          FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType"
          FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/CID"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi"
          FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi"
  EndSection
