Bug#465721: libc6-dev: /usr/include/sys/io.h missing from some architectures

Package: libc6-dev
Version: 2.7-6
Severity: important

Hi,
I've adopted a package, libx86, which is failing the build on some
architectures [1]. Reading the build logs [2], I've noted that the error is:

error: sys/io.h: No such file or directory

Looking in

http://packages.debian.org/sid/<arch>/libc6-dev/filelist

I've noted some inconsistency wrt the headers provided on every arch. In
particular, sys/io.h is provided on amd64, arm, armel and i386; and it's
missing on hppa, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390 and sparc.

Is this intended? How should we port the applications to these architectures?

And no, the package is not (at least, shouldn't be) x86-specific; it
also provides a "x86emu(lated)" backend which would do the job on !x86 machines.
(in fact, see the BACKEND= flag to make in the buildlogs)

Kindly,
David
