I'm afraid you are demonstrating your own blatant lack of knowledge.

What has in fact happened is that some other, mostly disjoint, set of
programs have started implementing a different approach.

I think your attitude is quite reprehensible.
You are basically saying that you refuse to acknowledge that there is
any room for discussion; you refuse to make even the smallest
accomodation to the views of many of your co-developers and users; and
you are being very rude.
