Does not this hit another bug in dpkg ?

It seems that empty old directories cannot be replaced by a
symlink without special pre/postinst script to help. My package
catched this bug and I had to workaround it (see #362487).
  Note that my package does not use the directory (nor the symlink)
anymore, so the current package does not have the workaround in the
pre/postinst.
