$ apt-file search ".doc" | grep "\.doc\(\|\.gz\)" | wc -l

Nevertheless, if you think abiword and openoffice.org should be moved then go
for it.  Just don't use them as excuse to turn warez wrappers into "generic"
driver interfaces.
