Personally I don't care where the information about the status of things comes from provided that it comes from *somewhere* and is reasonably accurate. I realize some people continually bring up "but you weren't wearing your ftp-masters hat!" but I think that if the information gets out in a reasonable manner from a reliable source that complaint will be ignored by everyone but the complainer.
