Large Packages files take a long time to download - not everyone has
broadband. Large Packages files take much memory and processor time to
process - not everyone has a fast computer with hundreds of megabytes of
memory.

I haven't installed them. I counted based on "apt-get search gazette"
which listed 70 lg-issue* packages. On a machine running unstable, there
will presumably be more. (In fact,
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/doc/ claims that the latest issue is
87, not 77.)

Installers aren't all that great. They are, however, a better idea than
having potentially hundreds of magazine issue packages in Debian.

(Even better, in my opinion, would be to set up a better distribution
system for such things than Debian. Something where, for example, you
don't store the files twice -- once in the source package, once in the
.deb -- would be a good start.)
