rsync is a good tool but it is one-way only.

Unison uses the rsync protocol (fast updates) and does true
bi-directional syncing.  I use it for syncing my laptop to my desktop
machine and it handles everything very well.  I recommend you also
install unison-gtk as the text-mode client is not very friendly.
