This is a quite common misbelieve. Classical project management does NOT
include any sort of power. Of course you can escalate problems to the ones
in charge but that means you have to tell them you didn't get your job done
too. 

Not that this changes the argument of a difference between commercial and
volunteer projects. This surely exists.
