Note on my machine!

>From the apt-get manpage:

update update is used to resynchronize the package
overview files from their sources. The overviews of
available packages are fetched from the location(s)
              specified in /etc/apt/sources.list. For example,
when using a Debian archive, this command retrieves
and scans the Packages.gz files, so that informa-
tion about new and updated packages is available.
An update should always be performed before an
upgrade dist-upgrade. Please be aware that the
overall progress meter will be incorrect as the
size of the package files cannot be known in
              advance.

See 'man apt-get' ;-)

Didn't realize I could do that!

Well, I get a grey screen with a large X as the mouse cursor. I can move
the mouse cursor on the screen, but that's all I get. No mouse clicks
cause anything new.

It seems that the normal startup can't find the X symlink, but I can't see
why not.

Must be time to do a dist-upgrade. Is that pretty safe for woody right
now? ;-)

Luck,
