dlocate uses gnu locate (from findutils) for "dlocate -S".
i don't know what happened to locate, but a few (several?) versions ago
it got very slow. locate searches that used to respond instantly now
take several seconds.
that's with a 3MB (291511 lines) /var/lib/locatedb
$ ls -l /var/lib/locate/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2983699 Feb 27 06:37 locatedb
$ locate / | wc -l
anyway, if locate is slow then dlocate -S is slow.
