ITP bridge-utils
Hi!
I have not seen any ITP on this on the list, and the search for it on the
mailing list didn't give any hits either, also it is not yet on woody, so I
supposed nobody had packaged or made an ITP for it yet. If this is incorrect
please let me know, otherwise I'll contact my sponsor for the upload, right
now it is available at http://manty.net
I have packaged bridge-utils 0.9.1 for woody.
However, I had, and still have some doubts in where should the configuration
of the bridge be done, I had three candidates:
1- the init.d scripts
2- the /etc/network/interfaces file
3- the /etc/network/interfaces file but to avoid overloading it two scripts
wich are at /etc/network are called on pre-up and post-down, this
scripts are the ones who bring the bridge up and down on ifup and
ifdown.
Right now I have sugested on the README.Debian file the third aproach, but
I'd like to hear from more experienced developers (maybe Anthony Towns can
point me what to do ;-) what do they think. BTW, if you think it is better
to continue with this on debian-mentors, feel free to do it.
License is GPL, this is what the control file says:
Package: bridge-utils
Version: 0.9.1-1
Section: net
Priority: optional
Architecture: i386
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.1.2)
Installed-Size: 55
Maintainer: Santiago Garcia Mantinan <manty@i.am>
Description: Utilities for configuring the Linux 2.4 bridge.
This package contains utilities for configuring the Linux ethernet
bridge. The Linux ethernet bridge can be used for connecting multiple
ethernet devices together. The connecting is fully transparent: hosts
connected to one ethernet device see hosts connected to the other
ethernet devices directly.
