No way. cp -a isn't too difficult, is it?

So what? That's exactly what they have their home directories and their quota
for.

Do you want 200 people enter /usr/doc/package/example and start a build in the
same tree, at the same time?

Absolutely nothing should be writeable for average joe except ~ and tmp,
and his mailbox and probably a very few other exceptions I forgot.
