A assume that this is - again an ncurses problem since:

Host a)

sc dumps core

ii  libc6           2.0.7t-1       The GNU C library version 2 (run-time files)
ii  ncurses3.4      1.9.9g-8.8     Video terminal manipulation - shared librari

Host b)

sc doesn't dump core

ii  libc6           2.0.7r-2       The GNU C library version 2 (run-time files)
ii  ncurses3.4      1.9.9g-8.6     Video terminal manipulation - shared librari

After a quick re-compile with the installed libc on host a) sc doesn't
dump core anymore.  Wtf is going on with the curses library and wtf is
it always sc that doesn't work anymore?
