Oh, I didn't read carefully, my mistake.  This is what I have been
doing

	* download blurf-NN.tar.gz
	* extract it
	* rename the directory to <deb-package-name>-<version>
	* cd <deb-package-name>-<version>
	* execute deb-make 

and you can start customising debian/* files.  No need to worry about
the .orig directory.
