What is wrong with using `patch' to apply the Debian "diff" to the
corresponding Debianized sources in reverse?

tar zxvf package-i.j-k.tar.gz
cd package-i.j
zcat ../package-i.j-k.diff.gz | patch -p1 --suffix .debian
