Bug#1213: /dev/null
Package: minicom? , base?
Version: v1.6 r3 , 0.93R6
Hi, Sorry about the unknown package. I am having problems with
the default permissions of /dev/null. I'll change them but perhaps
one of the installed packages set them up incorrectly. The permissions
after installation are:
oleta% ls -al /dev/null /dev/zero
crwxr-xr-x 1 1114 dialout 1, 3 Aug 5 1994 /dev/null
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 1, 5 Aug 5 18:04 /dev/zero
So perhaps one of the modem packages did it. The cron.daily jobs
find and smail's checkerr give permission denied messages when they
run.

Subject: Cron <root@oleta> run-parts /etc/cron.daily
X-Cron-Env: <SHELL=/bin/sh>
X-Cron-Env: <PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin>
X-Cron-Env: <HOME=/root>
X-Cron-Env: <LOGNAME=root>
/usr/lib/smail/checkerr: /dev/null: Permission denied
find: /mnt: Permission denied
The only reference I could find to "dialout" in /var/lib/dpkg/info/*
was from minicom.
thanks,
Stuart
