    Probably better to adjust searchandrescue, rather than porting
libjsw.  They have a common upstream, and searchandrescue is no longer
updated.  Looking briefly at the source, the joystick access seems
nicely encapsulated (gctl.c, sarmenumanage.c, and sarmenuoptions.c).
Depending on the interest of the porter, it may be easier to port to
another utility API (e.g. SDL) rather than the kernel intereface
directly.
