DebConf8 Registration --------------------- Registration is now open for DebConf8, which will take place in Mar del Plata from Sunday 10 to Saturday 16 August 2008. To register follow one of the processes outlined below: - If you registered for last year's conference, DebConf7, go to https://penta.debconf.org/penta/submission/dc8/person to login. - If you didn't register for last year's conference you need an account in the conference management system. To register one, go to https://penta.debconf.org/penta/user and create an account. After visiting the activation URL sent to you by email, go to https://penta.debconf.org/penta/submission/dc8/person and log in. After you logged in ------------------- After you successfully logged in, please fill in at least the 'General', 'Contact' and 'Travel' tabs reachable through the 'Registration details' button on the bar on the left of the page. Please pay special attention to the 'DebConf' and 'DebCamp' boxes on the 'General' tab. You need to select at least the "I want to attend this conference" checkbox or your registration won't be valid. Note to users who have an account from last year: We did our best in making sure you do not have to reenter all your personal data again, just the conference specific changes. But please check if it is all still valid. We suggest that attendees begin making travel arrangements as soon as possible. Some travel information has already been collected at http://debconf8.debconf.org/getting_mdq.xhtml.en Travel Sponsorship ------------------ We hope to obtain enough sponsorship to help some people attend who would not be able to pay for their own travel. We intend to allocate travel sponsorship money between April and May. If you would like to apply for travel sponsorship, please fill in as much information as you can on the registration pages. Even if you have not arranged your travel when you apply for sponsorship, we need to know which days you intend to spend at the conference. The deadline for sponsorship applications is March 31st. DebCamp Attendance ------------------ DebCamp is a smaller, less formal event than the main conference, giving an opportunity for group work on Debian projects. It will again be held in the week before DebConf, from Sunday 3rd til Saturday 9th August. In an effort to make DebCamp a little more organised we ask everyone who wants to attend DebCamp this year to fill in an additional textfield describing their work plans for the Camp. Cost of attendance ------------------ As multiple attendees of past conferences suggested that we make it easy for attendees to pay for the costs of their stay, we are now offering this. As in the past the conference is free and we try our best to offer food and accommodation sponsorship to everyone who registers before March 31st. We are now also offering two additional options, namely "Professional" and "Corporate". The "Professional" category, USD 250.00, is meant for every individual or company who want to help the conference by paying the costs for their own/their employees stay. As a little reward for this payment people also get assigned to a double room, instead of a 3 or 4 bed one. The "Corporate" category, USD 1000.00, is for companies who pay their employees' attendance fees. In return for the Corporate attendance fee we will list the company on a special page on our conference website, as well as the double-room option from the "Professional" Category or, if they wish, a single room. We encourage everybody to help making DebConf a success by selecting the "Professional" or "Corporate" category. Attendees that register late (after March 31st) will need to pay the "Professional" fee (USD 250). DebConf8 Call for Papers ------------------------ We invite submissions of proposals for papers, presentations, discussion sessions and tutorials. Submissions will be accepted until March 31st. This year submission of a formal written paper for the conference proceedings is again optional, though encouraged. Providing a written paper in advance means that interested people can attend your session ready with ideas for discussion, and especially helps those who find it hard to follow rapid English speech. DebConf talks will be broadcast live on the internet where possible, and videos of the talks will be published on the web along with the presentation slides and papers. To submit papers, first register for DebConf as described above. Then use the 'New event/paper' button on https://penta.debconf.org/penta/submission/dc8 and fill in information about your submission on the various tabs. You can use the same interface to submit papers for DebConf and DebCamp, by choosing the appropriate 'track'.
