Well, I have ADSL with a similar set-up (black box ADSL modem which has a phone line in one end and ethernet out the other) and I get my IP assigned to me through DHCP. | In order to update DNS, IPv6 tunnels and such when the link goes up | and down, I need to know about those changes. dhcpcd can be configured to run a script when the IP changes - works for me.
