I never like the virtual package like task-x-window-system.
To much dependence problem. If you are using sid, I know the
x-window-system package work.

after you install the module for nvdriver did you load it?
run $>lsmod see you loaded it, if not $>modconf and load that.
if you have kernel-module loaded and X wouldn't start
the X driver may not work with the kernel-module.
run $>XFree86 -configure as root, that will give you a config file
in root home, match and see the different with your
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file.
Usually it will get the pci scan done for you also.
