Question regarding XCIN

Hi,

I just installed Debian Potato + GNOME 1.4 + kernel 2.2.19
I was started XCIN2.5  I noticed that there are repeating warning
messages about undefined preedit syle.

For most applications, this was okay. I can still input Chinese without
error.  However, for 2 applications gEdit, and VIM, at startup, the 
following
warning messages is reported:

Gdk-WARNING **: preedit style is not specified.

Gdk-WARNING **: status style is not specified.

Can't create input context
----------------------------------------

The gEdit is the one that comes of GNOME1.4  and
I have tried VIMversion 5.6 as well as  custom compiled 5.7
with all the latest patches.

Can someone explain to me why this is occuring and how
to eliminate this error.
