The problem with the DVD, CD and netinst images arises because they
attempt to mount an extended partition on the hard disk. There is (we
think) a kernel bug which results in the mount command hanging.

The mini.iso boots differently from these images. If you look at
'more /var/log/syslog' you will see it has no knowledge of the hard
disks. This means mountmedia has no extended partitions to try. Which
means the bug is avoided.
