Well, enabling ping applet in busybox costs just about 600 bytes on i386:

$ size busybox+*
   text data bss dec hex	filename
 312015	   1638	   8712	 322365	  4eb3d	busybox+
 312628	   1638	   8712	 322978	  4eda2	busybox+ping

it is really trivial to enable ping applet in busybox and close this
bugreport for good.

I disagree that this bug is a duplicate of #406108. One thing is to
have more featureful ifconfig, another is to have tiny debgging option
right away, without a need to reboot, find a rescue/debug environment
and reboot again.

Maybe it's a good idea to reassign it to busybox-udeb and fix it there
finally, for good?

Thanks,
