Well, I've done this, but I noticed that it only causes the data.tar to
be xz compressed. There is still a control.tar.gz. Since udebs tend
to have a lot of their content in the control archive, this is probably
not as effective as it could be. 

For example, in anna, the first package I tried:

-rw-r--r-- 1 joey joey 6.5K May 13 13:16 data.tar.xz
-rw-r--r-- 1 joey joey  66K May 13 13:16 control.tar.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 joey joey  47K May 13 13:16 control.tar.xz
