You can try to use one of the unofficial "Backported d-i images" built
by Kenshi Muto. [1]  They contains the debian-installer for Etch
(stable) release together with updated kernels that might support your
hardware.

You can also try to install Debian using an USB stick.  The procedure to
create such installation media is described in the installation
manual. [2]
