Comments/Problems:
At the open boot prompt, I typed
boot cdrom
and SILO loaded a splash screen that gives me 3 options -- the default is "Boot install" and I'm also offered the opportunity to
type "expert" or "rescue" at the command line. All three options get exactly the same result:
Allocated 8 Megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel
Loaded kernel version 2.6.18
Loading initial ramdisk (3879265 byes at 0x78000000 phys, 0x40C00000 virt)...
-
Remapping the kernel... done.
Booting Linux...
Just after the last line appears (Booting Linux...) the screen darkens for 1/2 a second or so (as if the video capabilities of the
machine are being interrogated) and then the same white boot screen with the black text I've pasted above comes back on and the
machine is completely frozen.
I'm happy to test any proposed or attempted fixes.
thank you very much for your work on debian,
~c
