Comments/Problems:

Problems with the supplied version of kernel for the i686, but using the i386 to
boot and then installing the most recent i686 version worked.

Problems with the linux-igd package that reports not being correctly installed
but the program works and installs ok - so it works but gives errors

Overall installation gave errors but the system is working.

Not sure what you mean here, but as it was resolved...

AFAIK linux-igd is not installed by default, so this is not something for 
the installer team to look into.
