[1] Kernels are one thing for which i think Debian needs to make an exception to the rule of "no updates unless something's broken". If you can't install Debian on the latest hardware - it is broken. I'm sorry, but that is not a decision for the installer team, but for the kernel team, but the kernel for Etch is frozen now. Unfortunately there will always be hardware that is not supported by a release kernel. We'll make installation images for lenny based on newer kernels available as soon as possible after etch has been released. Closing this report as this is not an issue we can fix. Cheers, FJP
