It looks like this is not a d-i nor a user-setup problem, but a problem in
the base system for arm. The awk (or rather mawk) error occurs in three
different places:

I did several ARM installations in the last few days and didn't see
this problem. Simon, can you try another install?

Just finished with it.
It still goes wrong (dependencies: exim4-config, *base, *daemon-light, at, exim4, mutt, mailx), but the installer doesn't hang anymore! It now goes on and finally turns up a red screen:

[!!] Configuring Exim v4 (exim4-config)
Installation step failed
An installation step failed. [,,,]
The failing step is: Select and install software

If I continue, the installer main menu returns so I can easily save the logs! Please find them attached.

Next step is to continue without boot loader, this instructs me to '...boot manually with the /boot/vmlinuz kernel on partition /dev/dhb1 and root=/dev/hdb1 passed as a kernel argument.' Is this still right? I thought the kernel needed a initrd anyway? There is one in /target/boot ...

FYI: ls /target/boot/ reveals:

Mar  7  2006  System.map-2.6.15-1-rpc
Mar  6  2006  config-2.6.15-1-rpc
Jan  1 01:25  initrd.img -> initrd.img-2.6.15-1-rpc
Jan  1 01:25  initrd.img-2.6.15-1-rpc
Jan  1 01:25  vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-rpc
Mar  7  2006  vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-rpc

And the last step was 'Finish the installation', the syslog messages of this step are attached as syslog1.txt.gz

Cheers,
Simon.
