Not sure this bug is still relevant. Manual package selection is not available in d-i anymore, and if the user runs tasksel outside of d-i and does manual selection (which is just a fancy and pointless way of running aptitude), then exits aptitude, tasksel will exit, but presumably a user could restart it in this case. -- see shy jo
