Comments/Problems:

1. Timezone selection didn't seem to let me choose for central European time
like sarge installer did.

2. Left select and install software which I left on the defaults. After
installation finished there was an error which was gone after the installer
retried installing everything again. Eventually it finished without errors
and rebooted resulting in a "boot failure" because the harddisk does not
seem to be bootable.

I'm an absolute beginner.
Installed sarge last week the same way without any such problems. I had to
use vim a couple of times though to get the Diamond Viper 550 to work with
something better than just VGA and to get the mouse wheel working on my
Genius Netscroll+ serial port mouse. But that was because i had no idea when
the installer asked me that serial is ttyS0, the Diamond Viper 550 has an
Nvidia RAGE TNT, the keyboard is a pc104 and my monitor IIama MF-8221
(Vision Master 21) has horizontal 25-85/vert 50-120. Everything worked fine,
later i even downloaded and installed the nvidia driver to get OpenGL
working too. But later when trying to upgrade from kernel 2.4 to 2.6 and
nvidia specifics stopped working and i could not get it to work again.
Requiring "testing" for nvidia legacy driver anyway, i thought it would be
simpler to download the etch beta 2 and hoping to get such options directly.
But i have not seen them, but maybe i would have if only the system would
boot.

If there is anything special you would like me to run on this system to
provide feedback, then just let me know. I'm used to computers for about 30
years now but this is my first time with Linux. Having seen a bit of Debian
so far with the above mentioned sarge installer last week, I'm actually
planning to run Debian only on some of my computers here.

Regards,

Pieter Roodnat
