Package: debian-installer
Severity: minor

Hi,

When using LVM with the Debian Installer (version released with Sarge), I
notice that at the partitioning step of the installation, if a LVM volume
group with (say) 5 logical volumes already exists on the hard disk. then the
installer will say something like

"5 volume groups exist, want to activate?"

I didn't make a note of the error message, but it is similar to that. If
this is not enough information, I can follow up to this bug report with the
precise message.

Anyway, this message is incorrect and misleading, since in fact only one
volume group, with 5 logical volumes, exists.

This message confused me quite a bit, till I finally figured it out, because
at the time I was doing repeated installations for testing purposes, and
thought that maybe all the previous volume groups I had created were still
somehow magically preserved.

While others will probably not make this same silly error, I still think the
error should be fixed.

This bug was fixed in version 36 of partman-lvm (or even earlier). The fixed partman-lvm should appear in debian-installer daily builds, and also be present in the next d-i beta release.

David
