But my case is not exactly what is described in the errata, I'm
afraid. If ata-piix is not loaded, ide-generic nicely handles both the
hard-drive and the CD on IBM Thinkpad T43, so my system is not entirely
SATA in this sense, and inability of libata to handle ATAPI is not a
show-stopper for this system. In fact I have custom kernel running on
the system that *does not* enable ATAPI support in libata and handles
the CD by ide-generic while hard-drive is handled by ata-piix.

Yes, enabling ATAPI support in libata does allow the installer to see
the CD, but that's not the right thing to do for given hardware and
given kernel as ide-generic does support the CD nicely, and ATAPI
support in the current libata indeed has all kinds of problems.
