Comments/Problems:

Installation of Base System:

This is my first installation of a Debian System - I've been using
Slackware since Version 2.0 :-)

Initially I was very impressed, the installation progressed cleanly
and intuitively - I especially like the package dependency tree and
the way selecting/deselecting packages shows any dependency problems.

However, a few problems later on:

1. Setting up the X server. I use a Flat Panel LCD, with a Native
   Resolution of 1280x1024 @ 60Hz. There's a lot of these around,
(It's a VESA standard one isn't it?) and they work best at their
native res. However, to get this I had to select a maximum resoltion
of 1280x960@85Hz and later (in another screen) specify a maximum
resolution of 1280x1024. I didn't find this particularly useful.

2. Exim. I decided to configure Exim later, and selected that option
   - as a result, I got an error reporting while parsing the
   config file:

config error at line 6 of /var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated

and was unceremoniously dropped out to a root
shell prompt. I retried this a few times by calling base-config,
and a number of the Exim choices seemed to do the same.

Installation of Boot Loader.

I decided to install this in the Debian Root Partition rather
than the MBR - I've got a few operating systems on this PC and
Powerquest Boot Magic installed there.

No problem at all - grub went cleanly in, and was easily chained
onto boot magic.

The grub installer also detected the other operating systems on the
disk and added boot menu options perfectly - apart from Fedora Core
2, which it descibed as a "Semi LSB Compliant Linux" (Is this an in
joke :-) )

Summary
-------
Overall, not bad. I do like the loader, and the trouble free
installation of packages from the web, though I do seem left with
a number of things to configure (sound, samba, etc) that could
have been done "out of the box".

Will I carry on using it? - not sure at this stage.

Cheers

Trev
