I used a 20051107 mini.iso for i386
If you "go back" very early (before network detect) and then choose to
"save debug logs" on a mounted filesystem, this is what you get:

and I could not get rid of the background window.
if you then choose to execute a shell things are messed up.
The problem is easily reproducible
