I use the amd64 version not sure how to use linux26
I copied the amd iso from http://www.us.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/
Netinst cd  for newer platforms
I am going to try the sata_sil driver now

Does knoppix "see" your disks? From what I found[1] you should be able
to access the disks using sata_sil driver. Did you tried booting the
installer with linux26?
Another report on your hardware is [2]

Both reports are using the amd64 version of d-i. Are you using the i386
or amd64 version?
