Doing a binNMU for 1.08 and testing that should be no problem, so go ahead. The changes from 1.07 to 1.08 are fairly minimal and have been tested in daily builds, so we could consider using that after all. Main problem is that we're running out of time a bit... Are you sure that 1.07 also has the problem? If not, the beta should be OK. You should be able to test it using a etch_d-i CD (there should be a working one tomorrow).
