yes, Davide is involved in testing gtk 2.8 , but at the moment only 2.0.9-x gtk libs correctly work with DFB.
Before gtk 2.8 has a stable dfb support it will take weeks or months.Alastair is still the package mantainer and said he's going to provide soon a gtk 2.0.9 udeb, which he previously removed and it's now time to put back again.
