That is a known issue which will need to be fixed in the kernel drivers.
Your workarounds are correct.

The missing net configuration should be fixed in tomorrow's daily images.

I wonder if that is related to the missing network configuration: because 
of that also no hostname and related basic stuff was configured...
Could you try again tomorrow?
